A proposed public plaza on North 15th Street between Nassau Ave and Banker Street.

About Us

Banker’s Anchor is a proposed public plaza on North 15th Street between Nassau Avenue and Banker Street. It is a new Open Street, in operation on weekends since May 2022, and is a well-used community space — hosting events, informal meet ups, and space for individuals to relax.

Our Goals

We support the continued development into a public plaza to:

  • Provide desperately needed climate resilient public space.
  • Support local businesses and institutions, including ComShalom, The Lot Radio, and Vital Gym through collaboration and community gatherings.
  • Be a connecting corridor between Bushwick Inlet Park and McCarren Park.
  • Not alter traffic patterns, as through traffic, including trucks entering the Williamsburg IBZ, can utilize Banker Street.

Background

Historically, this area was part of the Bushwick Inlet which flowed into current day McCarren Park. With last fall’s neighborhood flooding, we understand the importance of increasing neighborhood design to capture and infiltrate stormwater runoff. This proposed plaza will serve as a place for community gathering and climate resiliency. We urge elected officials and NYC DOT to prioritize the creation of Banker’s Anchor Public Plaza as the community is ready to use it as such.

Our Partners

Our efforts are supported by our community organizations:

  • North Brooklyn Transportation Alternatives
  • North Brooklyn Mutual Aid
  • Berry Open Street
  • North Brooklyn Parks Alliance
